Hi everyone - i have a plec sucker thing which i have had for about 2 months when i bought him i was told not to feed him & let him eat off the algee in tank, today i have been told to feed him algee waffers, lettuce or cucumber... very strange diet but hey! I have got the waffers & but 2 in tank as instructions say so but all the other fish have eaten them & when the plec wants to eat them the other fish knock it out of his way. Is this normal should the fish be eating these & should it make a mess of my tank the way it has???? Advice needed thanks

it is annoying, but quite normal. It's fine for other fish to eat. I have the same trouble though, my danios eat it as soon I put it in. Some suggest feeding the Pleco after the lights are out, which may help.

I have just ordered a pair of long tongs so I can drop the wafer near to the pleco.

I also feed mine cucumber and lettuce, and all the fish have a nibble on that too.

if you feed lettuce or cucumber the other fish will still eat it (greens are a part of there diet to) :D

I feed mine peas to they love them.

Depending on your type of Plec, as they get bigger, they also get more protective over their food. I have a large sailfin Plec in with my Africans and even they don't mess with his algae wafers.

Everyone talks about how much their fish like cucumbers, zuchini and lettuce. Mine, with the exception of my oto, won't touch them. I have stuck 3 or 4 inch long strips of cucumbers up in the substrate and also clipped them on the side of the tank. None of them ever go near them except to see what it is. Once the see it, they just swim off.

Let them boil for a couple of minutes, let cool down pop out of shell, then squeeze between fingers and add to the tank.
