I had a common plec but had to give him another home because i found out he grew to over 10" I really want to get another plec, so does anyone know of one that doesn't grow over 4"?

Rubbernose pleco (Chaetostoma Milesi) get to be around 3" from what I've read. I wanted to get a common pleco myself, but they do get really big.

I was recommended a Bristlenose plec and told they don't get very big at all?. I don't know if anyone can confirm that - they look very nice too!.

Bristlenose Plecs grow to about 4 - 5 inches. I bought one 3 weeks ago and it is about 4 inches now. Plus they are hardy and non-aggressive. They are not too shy either. :) P.S. Mine cost £3.95

I bought a clown pleco a week or two ago and he was $4.69. I love him. They like to eat wood so make sure you have some.

Yes, zebra plecs are good. And while you're at it get me a small school too

You're looking at a price tag of £100+. Each. So I'd go with the BN's, although try to get an older one, they can be finicky about water conditions when they are young.

I would either go for otos, a siamese algae eater or a rbsitlenose plec in your tank. Otos get to 2", can be a little fragile and like to be in small groups. They are also realy quite strictly herbivorous so you'll need to give them veggies and algae waffers once they've cleared all the algae. SAEs will eat all sorts of foods and are beautiful (IMO anyway), 5" or so active fish. They are related to other 'sharks' so they don't much appreciate the company of their own kind. A single one would do well in your tank and they are the best algae eaters by far. The only downside is that they are easily confused with false SAEs, flying foxes and some other similar-looking species. Provided you don't get a CHINESE algae eater (also called sucking loach/golden algae eater) this doesn't matter so much as they all eat algae to an extent and don't get bigger than 6". Bristlenose plecs are excellent algae eaters too, get to around 4-5" but aren't particularly active as they are mainly nocturnal. The more exotic plecs that have been mentioned are no match for a bristlenose when it comes to eating algae (bullnose/bulldog/rubbernose plecs are good though too so do consider these - they also only get to about 3") and have much more specific requirements. BTW, common plecs don't just get over 10" - they can get to over 18"!

SAEs get along just fine with their own kind. I have kept them in ones, twos and more. I have 4 in my 75 at 5+ inches and they are as thick as thieves.
