I was wondering if Algae is good for your tank or not. Does it absorb ammonia and nitrates or is just absorbing oxygen?

alge is a plant just like any other and will absorb nitrates and ammonia just like any other plant..

its not very pretty though

unless it's coraline or macro algae which is very pretty
