Algae

it could grow quite abit faster than it would in darkness. It shouldnt be too much though and you should be able to keep in under control with an algae scraper and/or some alge eating fish.

Only when young. When they get older they don't eat as much and can get very aggressive to other fish (some peoples do, some don't), they also get very big.

I'm not sure about CAEs, but I know every tank that I've put a group of otos into has become spotless in no time flat, and never has an algae problem again. I swear by those little fellas!! :)

If a tank gets 2 hours of natural light how long will it take for algae to grow?
If a tank gets 4 hours of natural light how long will it take for algae to grow?
If a tank gets 6 hours of natural light how long will it take for algae to grow?

Hey i have a similare problem with the indirect sunlight causing algae. I bought a treatment called Algae Destroyer Liquid and have a just treated the tank. I have a 44 gal with 6 cichlids and 2 clown loaches. How long do you usually have to wait untill you treat it again? The back of the bottle just says to re-treat the tank when it comes back.??? What do you guys do if you have a fish that loves to dig? I have an undergravel filter and i think that it isnt filtering properly because of the thin spots.

Tim :look:

P.S. The pic is of the newest of my cichlids i have no idea what it is. But he wont eat the pellits i have, i have some blood worms and he loves those. Is he a breed that eats live food?

How long did it take for algae to start growing in your tank???

I have a 33gal planted tank in a very sunny bright room with two large south facing windows. While the direct sunlight doesn't hit the tank, it comes pretty darn close. I do have some algae but not much. I figure you will always have some algae in a planted tank if it's healthy. It's pretty much confined to the older leaves on my Amazon sword plant. By the time the leaves get a lot of algae on them, it's time to trim it anyway. I am also getting away with next to no artificial light, just a single 20W flourescent which works out to only 0.6 WPG. Based on what I have read however, my situation does not seem to be the norm.

The intensity of sunlight (depending on where you live) can affect the amount of algae growth. For example here in the UK I get direct sunlight on my tank for about half an hour and there is not much algae growth.

CAEs do eat algae. Atleast mine does :) I also have a SAE, 2 shrimps and a few mollys to help !!!

Well I hope Denis The Menace(I couldnt help but name him that) eats algae since he wont eat anything else.

algea problems can be caused by lots of different factors
light being one, but nutrients, plants, fish, lighting period, lighting type, intensity of lighting....

it's hard to pinpoint exactly what will cause algea, and to which extent each is causing algea.

try and see for yourself
