i bought algae wafers because i was told that my pleco and even my otto might enjoy them. (yes i know my otto needs friends but the lfs near me isn't getting them for a while- trust me when it does i'll get more) right now NONE of my fish eat them. i put them in the tank, even if i hadn't fed them for a day or so (test to see if they were already eating and i didn't see and they were full), they wouldn't touch them. i even let them sit in the tank for a couple of days to see if they would eat them. NOPE the wafers were intact.

the wafers are Wardley Spirulina Discs... i don't know if that matters. it says that they are "all vegetable food for bottom feeders and algae eaters". but i don't know... so any one know why noone is touching them?

I believe the algae wafers are intended to be a supplement to the algae in your tank. Is there (or rather was there) a large amount of algae in your tank? If so they may be full already. I'd add a couple small pieces of algae wafer every other night. My plecs and my ottos (rip) really seem to enjoy algae wafers.

It could be that they're scared to come out of hiding and eat it? But then you said you left it over night.

But...I will tell you this....I used the Wardley's brand once and my pleco didn't attack it like he did the Hikari.

With such a preference in brands I started buying Hikari foods for all my fish, won't ever buy anything else. Really makes a huge difference, and its a lot higher quality and better nutrition too.

Do I sound like a commercial or what? lol

Just my observations. :D

well i was looking for a cheap thing as i wasn't sure that they would eat it. i will try the hikari brand. i do have a brown algae outbreak that i am battleing and winning. but other than that there isn't much algae. i put shrimp pellets in the water for my cories and my pleco seems to eat that and my otto eats off the glass and rocks so i guess it's good enough for him. he is still very little.

but as said i will try the other brand

If there is a fair amount of algae in the tank, I wouldnt bother with the wafers. Good flake foods have a decent amount of veggie matter in them, anyway and you can supplement this diet with cucumber, peas etc.

if you do not find anything for the algae wafers would you mind allowing me to pay for shipping for them as i just bought a pleco!

Thanks! You could put them in an envelope!
