Just sent this post once but it dissapeared for some reason!!!??

anyway ive had some bad algae problems and ive tried using green-x 3 weeks ago but the algae is still growing!!!

any suggestions???

try testing your phosphate levels. your lfs may be able to do this for you, so you don't have to buy a test kit. this is one of the main causes of algae.

ste :)

What can i do if my phosphate levels are high?? I thought green-x is supposed to absorb phosphates?? ive had the green-x in my filter for 3 weeks now and it hasnt stopped the algae growth at all

Any better products out there?

High phosphate could lead to algae problem, but it has been proven that phosphate is not the direct cause of algae at all. More importantly, what is your setup like? How many WPG? What tank size, substrate, water params, CO2? I left out alot, but you should list as much information about your tank as possible. This way, we can really help pin point the problem, rather than blaming it on phosphate.

My tank is 12 UK gallons

i have several live plants

I have a gravel substrate

I also have an air pump which i keep runing for about 10 hours every day

Water params...

Ammonia=0
Nitrite =0
pH=6.0
Hardness=6

It would also help if you knew the KH (carbonate hardness) of your tank.

What's your light setup?
Does the tank get hit with direct sunlight?
What kind of algae is it? What's it look like?

I dont know the carbonate hardness of my tank because my testing kit doesnt allow me to test for it.

I have 15W lighting

The tank does not get any direct sunlight

The algae is mostly growing on the plants. It is dark green...almost black and looks like thick hair
