Hi All

I have an algae problem, so does anyone know a fish that eats the stuff!!

It has to be small though.

Thanks

Are you talking about the tank in your signature, if so, doesn't your otto take care of the aglea? I know my little guy (when I had him) kept the tank spotless. If he can't keep up with the aglea, getting him a few more buddies would work (they like being in groups anyways).

Yeh, I think it is a bit too much for the little guy.
I will go to my LFS and see about getting him some mates.

Thx Meg

It really depends on what type algae you have. Different fish eat different kinds and if it is the dreaded blue green algae, nothing will eat it.

I envy all you people with algae problems :) I'm TRYING to grow algae for my Oto, and nothing will grow! Strange, considering the large amount of plants and light and lack of algae-eaters I have ^^ If you have an algae problem, bag it up and give it to me :p

On a more serious note, I think your best bet is defenitly to go get 2 more Otos or so. Unless it's blue green algae... Ya know, the rough turquoise crap that sticks fast to your glass ^^ If that is the case, you're probably best to scrub it off and lower the light in your tank.

i have 3 hill stream loachs they are good alge eaters

you could buy some alge killing med like i have and it seems to be doin the work :)

Any kind of chemical like that will do more bad then good. Its best to avoid this method at all costs.

I agree. Also, most of the algae killing products will also kill any plants you have.

I had black algae on some driftwood that was becoming unsightly. I got a new toothbrush and took the wood out of the tank and scrubbed it madly. The toothbrush was all black (yukky!) but the algae seems to have gone. However - that was only two days ago - so I'll let you know if it stays gone!

I find leaving a bowl of shallow tank water on a window sill for a while grows algae really well. Put a few rocks in the water for the algae to grow on, if you can, add nitrate to it, should be growing in no time.
