Hi all. I need some expertise as I've got a relatively new young tank which has developed algae but just floating on the surface. Nothing on rocks or anything else.

I currently run 9 tanks ranging from 8g to 90g and have been fishkeeping for 5 years. This tank has been set up for around 6 months, it's my newest and is a Juwel 300l with 3 inhabitants, 1 6 inch oscar and 2 hoplo catfish. The floating green algae seemed to appear around 2 months ago following a water change.

The strip lights are on for 10 hours a day with a midday break of 2 hours.

No plants as oscar eats them!

Filtration is internal Juwel and external Interpet 300

My lfs suggested removing it with newspaper which had limited success but it soon reappeared, like 2 days later. I don't want to use algae treatment unless absolutely necessary as it is quite a big tank and would be expensive.

My water stats are fine and I do weekly 25% water changes. Would more frequent water changes help? Any suggestions please?

Couldn't get a pic but think I've solved the problem. Did a 2nd big water change, added a large airstone and it's gone :good:
