Hello everyone, I have a quick question. I have a brackish tank with 2 Columbian sharks, and I have a terrible time with algae. Does anyone know of a good solution for this. I use algae magnets on the glass put it don't work for the sand and decor. I'd like to stay away from chemicals if I can.

Thanks

I was thinking about ghost shrimp, but wasn't sure if they could withstand salt, plus they would get eating pretty fast. I know there are probaly some snails but not sure the amount of salt they need. I was reading about Java Moss on one of the pinned topics. I have quit a bit of that I'm getting ready to put in my other tanks so I'm going to put some of that in there. Anyone have any ideas.

Also thanks for your reply

Nerite Snails eat green algae and are brackish water tolerant. Also Florida Flag Fish and Mollies but they may get eaten.

Just scrape the glass and forget the rest of the algae. Algae is part of the brackish water habit. An estuary without algae is like a coral reef without corals. Choose rocks and decor that looks good with a bit of algae: I find dark rocks work great with algae, while lighter things tend to look a bit grubby. Either way, once the algae gets to a certain thickness, it looks really nice, like turf. In low light conditions diatoms and to some extent blue-green algae can be a problem, so stepping up the light to encourage green algae instead might be the way to go.

Cheers, Neale
