I've got a bad problem witha green algae covering all my rocks in my tank. I've recently set it up and after adding fish last week there is now green algae coverong my tuffa rocks. It looks horrid as my rocks are white. I've cleaned them with a stiff brush but i want to know how i can stop it coming back. When i had the tank set up as a comunity tank i never had this problem, but I did have a 8 inch common plec who must of ate it all?

certainly not a bad thing, a good algae growth in a malawi tank is great for the mbuna to graze on, you cant really avoid it I dont think. I personally like the algae cover on the tufa rock. you can get a couple of bn plecs to help reduce it too.

Yup, algae is considered very desirable in a malawi tank, your fish will spend a lot of their day grazing on it. While tank alage isn't very nutritious, it gives them something to do besides fighting.

I don't find my mbunas grazing much on any algae. Maybe I just don't have enough of it.

Real plants help with algae. Amazon Sword is a good one that is easy to grow and grows a large extensive root system.

Keep an eye on your nitrates too. Algae will feed of the nitrates.
