Algae Please Help

i have a huge ammount of hair algae and its really gettin me down and i have even turned to medication please can u help ??

I wouldn't get too crazy with the medication; iv had bad experiences with algae medication. But what you can do it keep the shades shut on the windows in your fish room, and keep the tank's lighting off. The fish wont mind it being dark for a week or so, and your algae problem should die off fairly quick. It will take a little time, but after awhile you should see it falling apart. You could also supplement this process with a little medication, but be sure to make sure that none of your fish are subject to problems from that specific kind of medication. Cheers.

Guppydude is right cut off the light to your tank and the algae will soon die off

[thanks mate but wat about my plants i have a fair ammount of plants in ther wouldnt tht kill them

I have floating plants that occupy three quarters of my tank's surface. this cuts the light down a lot without making it dark. Just an option for in the future.
I'm with Guppy Dude on this, though I have no experiance with the treatments. I just think, if there is a 'non-med' option, go for it.

Well if you have live plants, then definitely DO NOT add algae medication, that would do them in for sure. Im no plant expert myself, but i dont think going a week or so without lighting is going to hurt them too bad. Try consulting somone on the aquarium plants board.

I was busy the other week and i simply forgot to turn my lights on for about 4 days and when i turned it on i was amazed to see no algae i didnt have much any way but wot was there had gone and my plants all seemed to be fine
