Hi all,

I've recently (a few weeks ago) fishless cycled a new tank, and all is well, fish are all healthy (endlers are already multiplying like crazy, but that's another story! ).
However, during the cycling process the tank built up a fair amount of algae - the BN plec I've put in there has taken care of most of it, but the sand is still covered in the stuff!
I've not come across this before in my other tanks, and I'm a bit stumped as to how to get rid of it. The rest of the tank is fine and algae free, but the sand looks green!

Any ideas on how to get rid of it, or do I just need to be patient and it'll go away by itself?

Cheers in advance!

algae is common in new setups, keep cleaning it off and it will die down after a few months, take a look in my sig for more info on different algae's

Thanks, I figured it would sort itself out, just wanted to check. It looks really ugly, and I was considering pulling the sand out and replacing it!
I guess patience is the key.

This is just from my experience but this is what I have done and suggest. First to get rid of the algae you could do three things. One suck the top layer of the sand up next water change. Two turn off the filter stir the sand up and let settle and then suck up(turn filter back on). Third and last resort add a chemical to kill the algae. What I have noticed from personal experience is over filtering and water circulation like a air stone will keep algae from forming. :good:
