my 20 gallon tank has sand in it. It is about 5 months old. For the last couple months, I have been getting algae on the sand. It is just regular green algae. I wipe algae off the glass every week or two, but can't really do that with the sand.
stock in this tank:
3 neons
6 zebra danio
6 platy
nitrates are around 10-15 whenever I test for them.
phosphates were high, I put some stuff in my filter to remove them a couple weeks ago, and so phosphates are gone now.
Lights are on a timer, which comes on 4 hours, off 2, on 4 again every day. Tank is at work in my office with no sunlight.
filtration = Whisper 60 hob filter.
I have a bristlenose pleco at home that I can put in my 20, do you think it would eat the algae off the sand?
I also have a bamboo shrimp at home. I notice that it sometimes goes through the sand with its "fans" to search for food. Do you think one of those would keep the algae off the sand better?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!
