I have a huge algae problem in my 4 foot discus tank.. Now i have otto's but they arnt doing a good job for me... The algae is covering my wood and rocks would it be worth while getting a big plec in there to get rid of it?

Adding a large algae eater would remove the algae but does not address the cause of the problem. I'm not sure if plecs can handle the temperatures of a discus tank.
You must find out what's wrong with your setup that's causing the algae. If you don't have plants then you may have too much light on your tank. If you have plants and they are not growing very fast but the algae is then you probably don't have enough/ proper quality of light. Maybe your water is too high in nitrates or phosphates. My water is phosphate rich so I use Rowa-Phos to lower the level. The algae is there because it's an efficient opportunistic (sp.) plant. Remove the nutrient and/or light imbalance and the algae should gradually fade away.

What's the tank's size, dimensions, wpg, and do you add CO2?

Thanx waterloo im going to get my water tested today... Ill tell you the results when i get them... Thanx again! [:D]

my 55 gal tank (4 foot) was covered with algae green and brown, and a bristlenose pleco cleaned it up in days, need to add algae discs for him now to eat, not enough algae left, he'll starve. I also do not know about this pleco in high temps???

So i went to my lfs today and got my water tested... The guy there said that everything was fine... HE said the nitrates were a lil high but not that high to cause all my algae and the nitrates would go once i did a water change... Waterloo i got him to test for phosphates and they were zero....

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing it and how i should get rid of it?
