Well my tank was super clear, it had been recently re done the whole thing so it was 3 weeks old. I realised I had some algae growing on my glass. So I get out my magnet cleaning thing and clean it all off. My tank went a little cloudy which I expected cause I just scrubbed algae off into the water. Well it is getting close to a week after that and my water is still really cloudy and kinda has a greenish colour to it.

My brother had a look on some forums and said its there cause I had no nitrates to stop it from growing and thats why my water is getting cloudy cause nothing is stopping it.
I did 2 water changes in the last week of about 1/4 of my tank and it dilutes this cloudyness. I can't get it to go away and I don't know what to do.

Anyone got any ideas on what I can do?

I will post some pictures of my tank and the cloudyness tomorrow.

Your brother got it backwards - nitrate increases algae.

The green water is an algae bloom that can be caused from a number of things, but the end result is that there's probably too many nutrients in the water. Overfeeding is the leading cause, since most fish keepers over feed their fish, and beginners even more so. Make sure the food is all getting eaten, and there's no need to have the fish eat until they're bloated at every meal. Make sure there isn't too much waste build up - that the substrate is vacuumed, the filters maintained, and the water changed on a regular basis. Make sure the tank isn't grossly overstocked either, or that there isn't any dead fish rotting anywhere. Last, make sure the tank isn't getting too much light or any direct sunlight.

For now keep the lights off and stop feeding the fish for a few days. Keep doing water changes and you should see it clear up. Then you need to fix it at its source by figuring out just why it's happening, otherwise it will become a recurring problem.

I kinda have been feeding my fish too much, been giving them granuels twice or three times a day, and sometimes my tanks lights go on for over 12 hours. It is really bad just looks kinda cloudy. :look:

Fish
It is definately not over stocked though,
  • 5x Tiger Barb
    3x Pakistani Loaches
    5x Cherry Barb
    1x Pearl Gourami
Lighting
I have,
  • 2x Sylvania Gro - Lux 30 watt lights.
Size
My tank is,
  • 45cm Wide
    45cm Heigh
    90cm Long
Filtration
And I use a,
  • Via Aqua Professional 230
Plants
In my tank I have,
  • 1x Wisteria
    2x Blue Stricta
    Some little plant.
    4x Java Fern
Getting more plants and maybe some more fish tomorrow or is that a bad idea cause I have Green Water? :grr:

A pic of my cloudy tank, kinda crap, but I aint good at the camera. For some reason it made the fron bow a little bit even though my tank is rectangular.

Who likes? :D

Stiil need to get more fish & plants

I tested my water today can someone tell me if this is good or not..

Testings
  • PH - 7.5
    Ammonia - 0.1
    Nitrate (N03) - 0
Also I am going to do a water change to try and get some more of the green water gone. What would be a good amount to take out? -_-

Thanks,
Cougs

It looks like you're tank just isn't mature yet. You are showing ammonia and no nitrates, which is not a good sign. Do not add any more live stock until you measure ammonia and nitrIte at 0. Nothing but 0 is acceptable with ammonia and nitrite. Do regular water changes and keep an eye on things, and have some patience.

Umm, Look up one post there is my ammonia test, 0.1 I looked at my PH and Ammonia on the chart in the back of the book and it was in the green zone... :)
