Algae In A Semi Planted Tank

I have a 10g, which holds some tetras and corys.
it also has 3 plants of anubias and pieces of bogwood.

It has a normal stock flourescent light, I add no co2 or ferts into it. It has normal small grained substrate.

I have no clue why algae grows in this tank.
I can usually control the algae in my 46g but lessening the amount of ferts I use, but that wont work in this tank because I dont add any?

any reason why algae would still grow? Currently, I just set the light timer to go on for 5 hours, off for 2, then on for 5 more to help stop the algae, but I want to find the true reason.

Edit: the type of algae I see is brush algae

light - standard 20inch strip light from perfecto with the bulb it came with. some eclipse....15watts

I think Lenna was refering to the colour temp of the tube i.e. if there's a lot of blue ( ie. 10000K) then this can favour algae.

I'd say your algae is due to insufficient plant growth. Algae worst enemy is lots of growing plants. Your Anubias is very slow growing and does very little the prevent algae. If you don't wish to add more plants then I'd suggest limiting the lighting to 4 to 6 hours straight, Anubias will be fine with this.

If it is brush algae (BBA) then ridding it can be troublesome. There's a fair bit of experience on BBA on this site so try a search for brush or beard algae.

To be honest. I don't even konw the bulb temperature. Since its the stock bulb, I am thinking It might be around 9000k which is what the stocks usually are, right?
I'll check that out
