Hello,

I set up 5 tanks for breeding guppies:
1 adult female tank - 10 gal - filtered
1 adult male tank - 10 gal - filtered
1 breeding tank w/ 4 breeding traps - 10 gal - filtered
1 fry tank - 5 gal - spounge filter
1 juvinile tank - 10 gal - filtered

Heres the problem:
The fry tank and the juvinile tank I had previously and
when I cleaned them out all I used was water. Now
these 2 tanks have been in use for about 2 months and
have alrady generated alot of algae, while the tanks I
bought new have ablosutly none. They both have fry
and med sized fry in them. So what would the solution
for the algae be? Treat the water? Add a Pleco (I have
many). I'm new to the whole fish keeping scene and i
dont know to much. As much Info I can get would be
best! Product names, ideas, anything would help. I would
hate to lose my baby guppies this far along trying to fix
the problem myself.
I can probably get some Pics of the
setup if needed.

Thanks ALot

algae needs 2(main) things to grow, light & food.
excesivelight will promote an algae bloom, as will high phosphates and nitrAtes.

have you tested for nitrAtes/phosphates, if so what are the levels?
how much light do the tank get per day?

well i figured that. ive fixed those problems.
i now have the floro light on 12 hours a day and off 12.
now what is the food the algae uses?
so now i still have algae. how do i get rid of it? im starting to see spots on the glass also.
will a algae eater be ok with the fry, its a common pleco?
