Ok so when I got my 60 gallon tank for 50 bucks brand new I thought it was a great deal. Id only owned one tank before it and had lots of luck. :dunno:

Well this 60 gallon tank has a glass brace about about 12 inches wide in the middle of the tank just under the glass hood(which is the entire length of the tank).

My problem is that the water evaporating from the tank hits the glass top and moves between the brace and the top and every week I have to scrub the algae off. It grows so fast because it is so close to the light and my white gravel has a green haze on it directly below the brace because of it.

I thought about just coating the entire plate in Algae Destroyer liquid but i really dont want that stuff in my tank. Anybody have any ideas or have had similar problems?

Thanks!

yep i had the very same problem....except i didn't see it as a probelm so did nothing.

sorry that wasn't much help!!

urm put a piece of background paper on top of it.

yep would stop the algae though!!

I'm surprises the brace is 12" wide really, mine was only 1.5" which is why it didn't bother me.

You could try putting say cling film aorund it atleast that way you don't need to clean and just remove the film when it's dirty.

thats wasn't the point, putting cling film means you don't need to take the time to scrub it, instead you just take off the old bit.

apart from putting up with it there's only the normal ways of cutting algae back, less lighting etc.....
