Hi All,

I was plagued with algae in my tank after doing a fishless cycle (the algae bloom that happened never went away). I cleaned my tank regularly and everything just like I was supposed to, but it would grow back fast and furious in about two weeks. Well I decided to try boiling the rocks I had in the tank, as you are supposed to do that before you introduce any rocks that you have found and want to put in (make sure they are safe for the tank first). Anyway, these were rocks that I bought at the fish store so knew they were safe, but they were constantly covered with algae, even after scrubbing them over and over. So, I boiled them for a half hour, then let them cool and added them back to the tank. I still have a little algae, but it has been two weeks now and it is so little that I don't eve feel like I need to do a major cleaning job (just the usual once a week water change). I am a happy camper as this was making keeping fish a major chore. Not only that my fish seem happier, too.

So thought I'd pass that on for all you folks struggling with algae. You might try boiling anything in your tank that is safe to boil and see if that doesn't help.
