I have tried once mixing a common pleco with african cichlids with success for a short period. Is this possible. Is there any kind of Algae eating fish that is compatible with african cichlids?

Bristlenose Plecs are probably the most compatible and most common algae-eating tankmates for Mbuna - They can cope with the aggression, don't get too big and have similar dietary requirements to most Mbuna species.

I have an adult common Plec with mine and they don't mess with him - probably because he's a foot and a half long

I saw one at the pet store the other day whom i almost brought home he is about 10 inchs easy which im hoping should be fine. I have a 125 gallon tank with about 12-15 africans they are constantly breeding... I have a constant algae problem so im hoping the big guy can help me out.

Hey Ferris,

Will the Bristlenose Catfish handle the high Ph ok, My Malawi tank Ph sits around 7.6 to 8.0.

Cheers

Andrew

Yep should be fine, they seem to adapt very well to the PH and are one of the most common catfish kept with Mbuna. Highly reccommended. :good:

i have 2 dwarf algae eaters/sucker cats in my tank o a dozen and they are fine, they did all go in together though

Hi efish - What species is it you have? I'm afraid "dwarf algae eaters/sucker cats" could be many things.

Ah OK CAE's - They should cope OK with Mbuna aggression. :good:
