Algae Eater

A bristlenose will cost you the same as a common roughly when they're little. Personally even if it were a BN, it'd be too big for a 10g as they can get to 5-6". Not just only is the size an issue, but all plecs poo tonnes, so you'd be doing loads of gravel vacs. It's a common misconception that plecs clean up your tank to sparkling new, many dont even eat the algae on your tank, and make twice as much poo - so therefore twice as much work. In a little tank they can make fishkeeping more of a chore than a pleasure ;) You're better off returning him and getting some other little algae eating fish/creatures (otos, snails, shrimp?).

this is common among most plecs, they are noctournal and for the most part, very shy. I've had to get a side-on shot of my tank to see mine because he is always stuck to the side of a rock I have in my tank. sometimes i will walk in at night and flick on my lights and catch him in action, but it never lasts long. i wouldn't imagine you would get a picture this way..... if you don't feel like moving things inside your tank, you may just have to wait for an opportune moment and snap him later. what i do is a reach in and move the rock a bit, he usually flees to another sopt in the tank that is in plain sight to me but still somewhat hidden away from the rest of the tank.

I have two red cherry shrimp in there too. They seem to be doing a fine job on the algae too. The pleco is a little anti-social right now, he is staying to himself and I havent noticed it pooing too much, I will keep a look out for that. Right now he's being a good little fish so until I see otherwise I'm gonna hang onto him.

I'm going back to Petland, hopefully I can ID it then.

I went to petland today to ID the pleco. It said on the tank, Pleco MED (3"). So I'm guessing I got one that will get big. I'll had onto it until it gets too big for me to handle then I'll trade it in.
