I thought I had already asked this but can't find the post. I was thinking of having a couple of Synodontis Polli or Petricola but I think I'd also like algae eaters. I know mbuna do eat it as well, but specific algae eaters would be....?

This is of course if the tank ever does actually cycle......

Bristlenose Plecs are your best bet Cheffi, not too big and tough enough to cope with Mbuna. :)

Black shark Labeo chrysophekadion will eat algea and are agressive enough to stand upto malawis
they can quite easily adapt to a pH of 8.5 so that is not an issue, however they can atain 2ft so are best moved on at around 6" unless you have a massive tank ;)

 YUP YUP  BN's ARE DA BEST!!!! AND SO UGLY THEIR CUTE!!!! :D

Aahh yes bristlenoses ring a bell. They are ugly enough to put me off my food so I'll leave the glasses off so I can't see them too clearly

 Is it 1st April today....shame they grow too big as they are far prettier than the bristlenose.

Cheffi this algea could just be to do with your cycle as tanks often become very dirty but its always worth having an algea eater.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed ginge that as it's gone absolutely crazy growing the last couple of days it might be a sign from above that its about to finish. OOOps just putting my glasses back on I'm sure i saw pigs flying past the window then

Cheffi don`t worry about the algae I`m sure it`s normal while your tanks cycling plus all sorts of other things until your tanks finds a balance. BN`s seem the way forward but I can`t bring myself to buy one they are so ugly. crazy:

I know what you mean nick. It's like taking bad tasting medicine that you know will do you good. I just wish they were a bit more attractive or that syno's ate algae then I wouldn't bother with bn's :-(

If the algae is green, then its normal and you're probably leaving the lights on a bit too long. If its brown (diatoms) this is very common in new tanks and generally clears itself in a couple of weeks, which is good because none of the algae-eaters will touch this stuff.

Oh it's brown Ferris, does that mean I don't have to have a bn? Oh what a shame
