my tank recently has turned realy cloudy green (algae bloom), ive done 2 water changes in a week and it isnt helping. I have no idea what caused it, and it doesnt seem to be affecting the fish at all. It looks awful thogh. Also, there maybe direct sunlight getting in the tank since there is a big window pretty close to the tank, this is probably part of the problem isnt it? What do you gys suggest and will this hurt my fish in anyway???

This happened to my 55g, and is starting to clear up noticable now :D

I change the water every 2 days, and leave the lights on from 3:30 pm to 11:00 pm :) I've been doing this for the past 2 weeks and the tanks has cleared up a lot

A dark curtain maybe. And live plants. live plants will compete with the algae for nutrients. And the plants should win. Try elodea as it is fairly easy to grow and grows fast. Or you could go to wall mart and buy a couple hardy apongetong bulbs. They get really tall and fairly wide so you should space them a bit. Good luck.

Well i had an alge bloom in my community tank a few weeks ago, i think it was because the temp got to hot but anyway i used a product called algae destroyer advanced in it and within the first 10 minutes the water was clear, now i add alittle every water change

this is a common problem if you have enough light source... and enough nutrients in the water...

the easiest way to clear this up is using ocean free green away. However, the dosage on the instruction doesn't seems to be enough.... i doubled it before it clears away the algae...

of course, if you prefer to use the non medication method, there is a couple you can try.....

1) black out for a week. using only room lights.... that means you have to stick dark paper around the tank where light source are coming from and leave only the front.

2) Use barley extract in your filter. barley extract in the water will compete with the algae for nutrients.. and the algae will be drain off. however, this method is not very fast, especially if you are using those filter media type.

3) you can do a large amount of WC... however, i feel that this is not a long term plan as my green algae comes back about a week or so...

do note that green algae is actually good for your tank. it sucks up extra nitrate, and ammonia as well. it keeps the water oxygenated if there is enough light....

this kind of water is especially good for goldfish apparently....
