My tank is a few months old and there are patches of brown algae on the gravel and tank walls.I have bought plecs that are meant to eat it but they seem to ingnore the algae. What should i do?

What size of tank u have? What are ur stockng? What are ur reading stats? Some plecos dont clean them u must scrub them.

Plecos tend to eat at night time, so you wont see them eat it during the day. My pleco will only eat the algae on the glass and not whats on the ornaments.

I believe Brown algae can be a result of Lack of Light..
maybe not on for long enough and as for on the gravel,
Do you have sharp gravel or is it nice and rounded?
I myself have been considering Dwarf suckers they are very active and LOVE cleaning rocks/plants and are gentle.

and they are Cute!!!

what other fish are in the tank? if nothing aggressive than a couple oto's would take care of that problem. you could take back the pleco and get some of those guys. in my experience bristlenose(bushynose) do the best job out of all the plecos with that stuff but even they dont do that good a job.

Brown algae is pretty typical in new tanks. It will eventually clear up on it's own. As mentioned, it is one of the few algaes that is caused by too little light.
