Hey everyone,
I have two baby red ear slider turtles and i'm having lots of problems withy algae bloom. i went to the LFS and they told me it could be the phosphate levels being too high. I got a test and voila the levels were really high, i did a water change and used to kit to lower the levels of phosphate but i am still having a lot of algae bloom.

I dont know what else to try. Any suggestions?
I was thinking of getting one of the algae control chemicals but i'm scared that it will do damage to my poor turtles. does anyone know if they will harm the turtles and if there is a particular i should get?

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks
Kim

Please will someone help me! Nobody has responded to me yet! my poor turtles!

I have a pair of baby musk turtles, and get problems with uneaten food in the water. Fungus growing and stuff. Now, I thought about adding shrimp or crabs to clean up after them. They are too small at the moment to eat the shrimp, but as they get older they will probably eat them as a snack when they want to. But if I kep feeding the turtles too, fingers crossed they won't bother too much with them. I figured they would be an occasional treat / snack as and when, and if I can enourage the shrimp / whatever to breed, the turtles will eat the babies but probably not bother with the adults. Thats the theory anyway. Perhaps the same would work for algea? My thinking goes if they eat the shrimp, then just replace them (depending how fast tehy eat them of course!). Also, putting lots of plants and cover will givethe shrimp somewhere to hide, and give the turtles a challenge in finding them.

algea wont harm turtles at all. you could get some big snails to help clean it up. but other than that algea's harmless.

ive given up with trying to prevent algae in my tank, every now and then i just give it a good wipe around,.....ive tried everything and nothing helps!!

I wouldnt try crabs in there...my friend did that and her turtle ended up with a nasty bite on his foot (would you call it a foot??)
