Hi,

I have 3 tanks - 6g, 8g, and 15g. I have never really had a prob with algae in the larger tank but the others are awful.

I have tried cutting down lighting - I now do 5 on, 2 off, 5 on. This slows the algae growth but only 4 a bit.
I do really cleaning once a week - water changes and algae scraping.
I have cut back on feeding - only feed once a day for 6 days and then 1 day off.
The tanks are not overstocked with fish.

The only difference is that the large tank is heavily planted but the smaller ones aren't but with all the algae the poor plants are getting bogged down with it.

The fish in these tanks are bettas so not sure if I should add say ottos to help.

Does anyone have any more suggestions?

you might be able to squeeze a couple of ottos in the 8g
but the 6 is too small
what about snails? they may multiply, but my ramshorns put a dent in the algae.

also i hear moss balls can help, eating the nutrients that algae would otherwise eat, starves out the algae.

I have heard that said about moss balls and was certainly thinking about getting some for the 6g. I have a real problem with snails in my main tank but perhaps that is why I haven't got any algae.

I put a couple of stalks of Camboba in my 12G and it did a great job. Usually a faster growing plant will allow take all the nutrients away from the Algae.
