Hey,

I've had a piece of bogwood, with some plants attached to it in my tank for around two weeks now. I got home last night and noticed that the wood had green and white fluff like substances growing on it, I presume this is algae.

There are no fish in there to eat the algae as I am fishless cycling. What is the best way to combat this. The light is on for 9 hours a day as my tank is heavily planted. I'm worried the algae on the wood will kill the plants attached to it!

Any advice?

If you can remove the plants attached to the bogwood, then I would suggest you take the bogwood and place it in boiling water. This will kill off any growths.

will this also kill any "Good" bacteria on the wood too? cos i'm cycling my tank see and dont want to prolong the cycle?

What you think?

It should not affect your cycle. Yes, it will kill the good bacteria on the wood, but that should be relatively small as compared to the amount present in your gravel and filter.
