would like some more info on these fish please i've read quite a lot but prefer to get some tips from people who have had some experience with the particular fish i am interested in
i want to add some of these to one of my tanks - when i think out the numbers a bit so will be a few months yet

will these crossbreed with these or platys or the guppy i currently have

i have humpback limias ,harlequin rasboras , neons , WCminnows , guppy , platys and corys and want to know how they will get along - to decide where they would eventually go

Thanks Sarah xx

Hi Sarah

Their are very few in the country, and i have only seen 2 pairs for sale in the last couple of years. Which was at the BLA auction in Nottinham back in Oct. (next BLA auction will be march in Corby though)

Breeding is much more difficult with these fish, females swell only slightly more than normal when fully gravid, but they will not cross with any other livebearer other then Alfaro hubberi.

I know Fish48 has hubberi but getting fry from them is fare more difficult than cultratus, which in the past I've raised fry in with the adults (species tanks).

I love these fish though as cultratus was the first true wild fish i ever had.
Good luck in trying to find them.

I saw some cultratus in a fish shop in Aylesford in October. They weren't there when I went back last weekend, so hopefully they went to a good home.

thanks for the info i might be able to get my local maidenhead to order them for me cos the manager is pretty good and orders what i want within reason might give him a try for a few pairs

cheers Sarah xx

Ferrybridge aquatics listing them as in stock
might be worth a call

Ferrybridge had some the last time I was there about a month ago. It would be a good drive up there to collect them from Devon though.

I have a tank full at the moment. I hope to be going to Corby in March so I will probably take some to sell. I have found it very difficult to get young off them.

I gave a pal of mine a trio about 3-4 months ago, within about 2 weeks he had about a dozen youngsters! I couldnt believe it!
He made me laugh though when he gave me the trio back and said he didnt like em!! LMAO

See you there helterskelter.

I'm at Corby club this next month doing a powerpoint talk on how TDC show fish. Should be interesting as I am not really into speaking. LMAO

I'll be there in march as will Dunchp. Will have to meet up as good to put a face to the name.

Good luck with the tank, i would love to do talks but i far to nevers
LOL

will definately introduce myself, so no worries there. :good:

I put 2 female cultratus in a small tank 3 days ago as they both looked very heavily gravid. I went to feed the fish last night and saw that both females have dropped! :good:

Got the adults out before they could eat them, I think there are about 60+ young. They are about 10-15mm in length.

Good result I think! :D

blimey 10 - 15mm is massive their usualy 5-8mm

Not seen them at auction for a while, hubberi was at the last auction and i love them too :)

Not sure I will be at Corby in March, but if I am please introduce yourself. I have shut my fishhouse down now as I am moving in April. It only have a couple of tanks running now.
