Ok sooo excited!! I just turned on the room light where my 20g is and there are eggs!! then i see one of the two albinos I have holding eggs. I finally got to see them in action!!!!!! Too neat:D here I always assummed they were both the same because they really dont look like two different sexes but they are. I thought all the eggs were from the B. Splenden since there are more of them and there are obvious diff sexes. And right when I was about to get more for the shoal. can I use the net I catch the fish in for the eggs? Never done this before!

There are a ton of eggs, I have collected some foram all 4 spots where there were eggs in case some are from the splendens. i put them in a little cup while collecting then put my homemade breeding trap(plastic craftmesh sewn together with fishing line with pantyhose sewn to the outside of it. previously used for platy, danio and apple snail babies) into the 20g where they were laid. have a few pieces of duck weed in there to make sure the water is flowing. i just laid the cup in there for now facing the flow of the filters. i have a 2g hex tank with a sponge filter and sand, and a 5g betta tank with small hob and sand that they could go into instead if need be. will move the betta first! Just need to get them big enough to not be eaten by platy or the cories so they can go into the 55g. any suggestions or things I need to know/do? Any help will be very much appreciated!!!

Congrats on your eggs :good:

Once your eggs hatch, your fry will do better in a separate tank, the sponge filter one sounds good for now,you can later upgrade has they grow, they're super tiny and normally hatch 3-4 days later, they will probably be 8 weeks or so before they are big enough to go in with adults,or they'll probably get eaten.

I feed mine on defrosted baby brine shrimp & tetramin baby- which is finely ground flakes, later upgrading to crushed mini granules...

No need to feed them for the first 24-36 hours has they live of the egg sac, although i do squeeze a filter sponge into the water for their first meal.

Good luck :good:

:D Thank you!! Ok, so when they hatch ,or I can put the eggs on the glass now, put them in the 2g hex. Squeeze filter mulm on them when all hatched. I did go get some Hikari first bites, that was all I saw for fry there. If nessasary I can always put the hob from the 5g on the 20 for a bit and use the sponge filter in the 5g when they get a bit bigger or I can get a rubbermade tub big enough for them to grow out...its cheaper than a new tank.

Has long has you got a good air flow over the eggs to stop them getting fungus i would wait until they hatch then transfer them using the tank water the eggs were in,into the smaller tank :) Try not to handle the eggs too much in the early days, just leave them to it,remove any eggs that go white has these may affect the other eggs.
Go easy on the firstbites, just add a tiny amount to a little tank water and using a turkey baster or similar, you can squirt this down to the bottom for the fry.Firstbites can pollute the water if you overdo it..

The sponge in the 5g would be better :good:

The important part is once they hatch and you start feeding them, keep the sand clean,a piece of airline is handy for this, just to suck up the bits of uneaten food etc,do small daily w/c on the tank also, this will encourage the growth of wee fry :good:

Sounds great!! As soon as I see them hatching I will move Rivan(betta) over to the empty half of the 10g. and move the filters around so the sponge is in there. What temp will be good for them? The 5g is in my kitchen so it is a bit warmer than the others. Not sure what it will go down to but it has been around 82F. I can leave the lid off to help cool it down right? i have air line for cleaning my other tanks too so all good there. do I remove all the water in the 5g and refill with all tank water from the 20g or do i do a 50/50 with it? Sorry so many question, this is the first time I have saved any eggs and really want to make sure I am doing the right things for them.:)

50/50 should be fine,if temperature roughly the same. Temp for cory/cory fry is 22-25 degrees celsius,so 28/29 is far to high for them,so you'll need to keep it down to around 23...

I was the same when my corys first spawned so i know what its like :good:

Also have a look at the pinned thread (of special interest) at the top of the page, some fab info on breeding corys etc :good:

Thanks :) Ok I will get Rivan moved today and see if I can get the temp down on that tank. the heater is set on 80F for him so I'll try turning it way down and the lid off and hopefully that will work! I have been reading all the egg threads here today! lol I'll have a look in the pinned one too. Thank you!

Yep try to get that temp down otherwise the fry wont make it at that temperature :good:

Did you stumble across my albino thread....

Hehe, I sure did! I read it earlier. If I can't get the temp down should I just put them in the 2g hex? Worried there isn't enough room in there with it being taller than long. plus the sponge filter sits on the bottom. I can try to raise it up so there is more room on bottom though. Saved around thirty eggs.

The 2g will be fine when they first hatch, its when then start getting bigger 3-4 weeks they'll need more room :)

They'll eat titbits off the sponge filter also :good:

Yay! Will get to work moving things around then. I will keep this updated as I go and hopefully get some little ones all grown up. :good: Thank you sooo much for all the help!!

if you check my spawning thread you can see my little 12x8x8 tank which i have about 230 in. they are 3 weeks and will probably stay in there till 6.

highly recommend decapsulated brine shrimp eggs as first food, went really well for me, can buy packets on eBay.

good luck with your spawn :D

Thank you :) I did read that earlier today. I'll have a look on ebay but not sure if i'll have the funds :/ Im broke. Since I only saved part then they should be ok even in my little tanks I have right?
