I were told guppy's mom are more or less likely to eat their newly born frys, is that true? I'm thinking to move her to her own tank with or without the breeder net, which way I should go? Thanks folks.
Most Guppies eat their fry, however there are some that won't. It depends on the fish, really.
Just giver her a seperate tank with lots of hiding places, and she'll be fine. Breeder nets tend to stress the fish out. You can stick the fry in there once she has them, to give them shelter from her, but I would not recommend you put her in there. If you're away for the day when she has her fry, or something, plants (especially floating ones) will offer the fry adequate shelter.
Have you read any of our pinned topics or FAQs? There is tons of info in there that you might find useful. Good luck!
Thanks Ann, my female just drop about 15 frys, 12 out of them are born dead, only 3 lives. I actually just recieved her 16 days ago, she was a pre-hit. Would it be the stress due to shipping? Her belly still way big though. I hope the rest of the frys( in her belly) are ok. Would you think so
Thanks
Sounds like she aborted. It could be the stress from the shipping, new tank, new fish, etc. Or it could be from stress in your tank, it's hard to say. What fish is she in with, and what size tank?
It's hard to say about the other fry. They should probably be OK, but it's a little iffy. Hopefully they are so you can have some kiddos soon!
