My albino corey was the most active fish in the tank...she would swim everywhere, but then she'd have to rest on the bottom. When she rested though, a bala shark (i saw this happen twice) would come up slowly and nip her back.
Over the next couple days i noticed she was sitting in the corner more and more behind the uplift tube for my undergravel. I took a closer look and her fins were definitely chewed up, a big chunk out of her dorsal and two out of her tail fin.
I hate to move fish from one tank to another, but i figured she didn't have a chance if i left her in there to get eaten, so i isolated her in a small 3 gallon tank with water from the bigger tank. More of the same...she doesn't move hardly at all and doesn't eat (that i've ever seen.) I keep putting in sinking pellets and having to remove them at the end of the day (when they get all fuzzy.) I added water conditioner with aloe vera to help repair the damage. She's been in there for four days now, is there anything else i can do for her? It looks like she's just wasting away, if anyone has any ideas i'd much appreciate them.

It sounds like you are doing almost everything to help this little fish pull through. You can also try using Melafix, which is supposed to help heal open wounds. Keep an eye on her fins to make sure they don't become infected. If this happens, you can add antibiotics.

In this 3 gal container she is in, is there heat and filtration? If there is no filtration, check the ammonia and nitrite levels, just to make sure she isn't getting poisioned by her own waste.

For future reference, if you see a fish getting beaten up, don't hesitate to pull it out of the tank. The stress of moving will be less than the stress of the bullying.

Good luck with this fish?

Hi dooner,

Was she the only cory in the tank as they seem to get depressed when isolated, even if from another variey of cory. It would help to get her some friends though not in the 3 gallon tank.

What size tank is the bala in and is it the only bala, they need to really be in a group of at least 3 then they won't pick on other fish, but as they grow 12" plus you would need a huge tank for this.

That ain't looking too good if its not moving and isolate her self. Try to move her to a q tank and use ur main tank water tho. And see how she does. If things still no good its time to check for illness.

The tank is not heated as it's so small i can't fit a heater in it.
It's filtered by an undergravel filter system with one uptake tube with an airstone and coal cartridge. nitrates were a little bit high so i added some gravel from the bigger tank to get some more nitrification going.

The bala is the bigger of the two that i have, these two are the survivors of another one i used to have. They're each about 2.5-3 inches right now. It's only a 30 gallon and I plan on rehoming them in the next month.

This corey only had one partner corey, as the other three have died...

Needless to say, I'm not having good luck with coreys. But I'm hoping this luck changes cuz I like them so much.

Thanks guys.
