I have had the Male for about 2 years and it was sold to me as a gold pleco, not bristlenose just gold pleco. :grr: (Not going there again!)I decided to get a female to keep him company and hopefully breed. I have had the female for a couple of months now.

I have them in a community set up with:
2 corys (have to keep an eye on) :shifty:
7 swordtail (including babies)
15+ guppies (also including babies)
1 zebra loach (also have to keep an eye on) :shifty:

I have bought a slate tunnel for the Bristlenose to lay eggs in as I was told they will probably use this. :fish: :D

A couple of weeks ago I found some eggs in the tank prosumably from Bristlenose as cories are two different species. :D The eggs were kind of a yellow colour but were just outside the slate tunnel. The eggs floated around the bottom of the tank for about 3 days then dissapeared, probably eaten. I can only prosume the eggs were unfertile and pushed out the slate tunnel. :(

I am hopefully getting a new bigger tank soon filled with plants and bogwood with a sand bottom, which will hopefully be better for them. :D (Dont worry I am going to do a fishless cycle) But I am still keeping it a community tank moving the corys, Plecos and loach over but giving all the swordtails and guppies to my sister or my LFS. I will be adding more corys and zebra loaches for more company with some tetras and other fish.

Please feel free to add comments I will add more post concerning the albino Bristlenoses, there breeding efforts and the tank.

Thanks for reading, Panda_cory. :good:

You should put a cave in the tank with only one way in. Daddy will guard eggs and take care of the fry until they are no longer at risk. BN Eggs are bright orange and rather large. Before they will spawn, they need and area where they can be safe. I didn't have a cave in mine for a while and the bns jumped into my filter to spawn. Good luck to you.

New tank for bristlenose is set up just waiting for the water to be right and some plants.
The pair of Bristlenose are going in with my 2 corys and zebra loach.
Still undecided about what fish to get apart from more corys and zebra loaches. :good:

I keep my male in by himself - only introduce female when I want young, do a 25% water change with slightly cooler water to mimic rainy season & hey presto - eggs lol. unfertilized eggs will turn white. before they hatch I take the female out again as I found she would eat the young by accident when out at night.
mine ignored his cave however and chose a small ornament to look after them in.
atm I have normal male & female and an albino female but just ordered a brown long fin and an albino sailfin - hoping for males as no albino babbies from her mating with brown male.

Well I just was going to leave the female in there cos I dont have another tank big enough. My male loves to go in this slate tunnel so hopefully he will keep them safe in there. Should I just leave the eggs in there or try to get them out so the female doesnt eat them?
I have heard adding rain water will trigger them to spawn is it true?

In my experience, a pair will spawn regardless. If they want to spawn they will. I have not done anything different with mine, and they have about 50 wrigglers right now in a log cave.

Here Is a pic of my male in his old tank with two corys and a zebra loach.(Please excuse the algea)

Will get some pics of them in there new tank ASAP. :good:

At the moment in there new tank I have the Peppered Cory, Panda Cory, and Zebra Loach.(will try to buy more of these over the next couple of weeks.) And I also have 5 Cardinals and 4 Lemon Tetras (will hopefully add more.) I would also like to get some Sparkling Gouramis. I would like some other things to breed aswell as the Bristlenose like the Sparkling Gouramis and Corys. :fish: Fingers Crossed.

I was tempted in the past to start my own log, but I am going to continue to follow yours instead. I have BN fry that around about 2 weeks old now. Im serious, you get a male and female, and put a cave in, they will spawn :p I really hope to see some egg and fry pictures from you soon!

Ok, where to start?

I havnt been on here in ages! Well in the tank now is:
Panda corys
peppered corys
julii corys
cardinal tetras
lemon tetras
betta
Flying foxes
And of course the BN'S.

I now have about 90 BN fry over a month old. And More fry hatched yesterday in the slate tunnel with the male!
