Airstone

There is a large-ish rock in the lfs. It doesn't look like the other air stones, as it has no pipe coming out from the back. Is there such thing as a rock that will make bubbles without the need for a pump? Because I would like the affect but have no more sockets for another plug for the airstone

Depending on the size of your air pump, you might be able to split the hose and run an airstone from one side and a filter from the other. The device you will need to get is something like this:

it also depends on the power of your pump... some wont run air through the other hose

Exactly. I tried splitting mine and it just didn't work at all. The pump was perfectly fine & strong for one air stone, but almost non-existant when split.
It's worth a try though.

Sometimes even a small pump can power two attachments, although naturally, the bigger the pump, the more things it can run.

If you have trouble, try making the air hose as short as possible, so it only has to pump it a short distance. It might also help to raise the height of the pump because it seems to work a bit better if it is level with or higher than the tank. For some reason, when I put mine on the floor, they seem to have less power.
