Hey guys

I had a free air pump with one of my tanks and feel to put it to use. no instructions, so looking at it quizzically detached a bit and attached a tube from the air pump to the bubble stone and switched on. Bubbles do come out but only first half of stone and the pump makes an immense humming racket! Am I doing this right and is there any actual benefit of adding to a tank?

Plan on placing in a 14g tank for 3 dwarf puffers simply as seem to be getting what I think is hair algae and algae growing on the bogwood and thought it would help agitate the water more. Worried about the racket it is making and if I should only have on at limited times.

Any help appreciated guys!

sounds like the pump is not strong enough for the air wand

also it may help if you can place the pumo above teh tank initially then once bubbles are flowing move pump
if its adjustable make sure its at its highest setting

make sure you have a non return valve if pump is below the water level of the tank as this is a must in my opinion best 50p you can spend

to set it up right you should have

pump > airline > heck valve > airline > airstone

also make sure pump is running before you plce it in the water as noticed this helps as well

hope this helps

thanks for that another stupid question, had the main body of the pump out of the water and then the air tube running to the bubble wand in the tank, will place air pump above tank, is this right?
Is it also worth doing a bubblewand? Many thanks
