I was reading about oxygen for fish in aquarium and it seems that the air stone doesn't do that much.is this more to do with how tank looks rather thang anything.who uses one?thanks

Well it does do something, its just not being done in the way one might think. Because the bubbles rise and break at the surface, they are agitating the surface and this facilitates gas exchange.

Ok thanks.i will be running a fluval 406 in my 300 litre.

I use an airstone for the bubble effect in the water. So far as oxygenation goes, it's redundant because I have a spray bar on the filter outlet that ripples the water. But the family like the bubbles and it's cool. It's one of those 3' long ones that's partially buried under the gravel, so you see a few streams of bubbles across the length of the tank.

I always run an airstone, partly because they look nice and partly because of the surface agitation and gas exchange. And I always have, so I guess its also habit :)

Yeah.i have the spray bar coming with filter but decided to get a couple of wooden diffusers anyway.

Never had or used any as I personally don't like the way they look but my friend has one and her fish absolutely love playing and surfing around in the bubble walls.

I'm sure most active fish who like flowing water will enjoy them to play in more than anything but if you had fish who prefer calm still water they may not like it so much
