i want to seed an air/sponge filter as i have angel eggs and would love to save some of the fry. i have a spare tank but no filtration on it. if i was to buy a sponge type fiter to run through an air line and seed it in my qt tank how long would it take?

2-3 weeks. What you can do is take some gravel from the surface of a mature tank, and pile it on top of the sponge filter. This is often enough bio filtration to take care of the small amount of waste produced by fry. As they grow the nitrifying bacteria transfers to the sponge filter, and grows accordingly.

Hi Tolak thanks for the reply. i have really fine gravel almost sand like so could i put a couple of noodles from my qt tank on top instead?
