Can you restrict the flow of a standard diaphram air pump by squashing the air line without causing the pump any damage or do I need to bleed waste air some how?

Just restrict them. They arnt high pressure at all, so no problems with going bang

You could buy a 3-way vavlve or something similar. I basically splits your air line in three with adjustable valves. You can then select how much air each output gets. They're pretty cheap too

I do use the three way valves on my DIY CO2 system. I just want to kink the tube or clamp it a bit to reduce flow. I know the pump wont go bang but will the increased back pressure harm the rubber internal parts of the pump? I doubt it but you never know. Someone out there must have just clamped the line to reduce flow. I was just after any experiences.

My line is clamped, its not different to a adjustable valve, both ways restrict the flow.
I clamped mine cause i couldnt be bothered to go by a valve, lol
Its been running for a few months now and is still fine.
