Hey I got a 5 gallon tank with an undergravel filter with air pump built in... But Im upgrading to a 12 gallon tank (any stock IDS do pm me :D) however the air pump is to tall its like a stick thing with filter too and it to tall for the tank. Do I need an air pump? Or can I just stick the plastic tube thats connected to the air pump in the water? So air does get in

Do you understand??

I think you are referring to the air stone (the stone like thing on the end of the tube which the air comes out of). If so, it's not necessary but it does help your undergravel filter. It breaks up the air bubbles into lots of smaller air bubbles creating more surface area. This allows more oxygen to be transferred to the water which in turn is better for your filter bacteria. They're not expensive and come in all shapes and sizes.

If it's not being used for the under gravel filter, you don't need it at all. Almost entirely aesthetic.

Errmmm here it is... Its like a long stick connected to a tray thatgoes to the bottom of the tank. Which is UGF however with the new tank I got it is longer ratehr than taller therefore it is impossible to use the air pump in the new tank. I just wnated to know if it was 100% neccessary because I dont have many plug sockets left haha
