my mirabello 70 tank has an all in one 'filter, heater and pump' assembly... mounted in the tank.

( did have a link with a pic, but sites down gg )

the pump outlet has the optional aeration pipework and adaptor, and I have fitted it, the zeb danios love it lol...... :kana:

question I guess is 2 fold :

1. Is it actually necessary unless I have a 'full' tank....... as the aeration is as I understand, only for increasing the surface area of the water.

2. I screw in the air bleed valve at night, so it isn't taking air in at all . I do this because the tank ( 20 UK g ) is literally in the middle of my front / main room. Will this upset the fishes, pump, neighbours etc etc ??

thanks

oh ok, 3 fold  .......... should I have a seperate air pump, or is the in built affair suitable??

I have a smaller mirabello unit and do not use the aeration system. It made too much noise and encouraged algae growth on the glass opposite the filter outlet. I don't think it is strictly necessary unless your fish are obviously struggling for breath or you have the pump down so low that it creates no surface agitation by itself. Also since you cannot use it to run an airstone it doesn't even serve a decorative purpose. As for turning it off at night, I cannot say. I have no need for an extra air pump, even though I am probably overstocked.

A sensibly stocked tank should not need an "air pump".
