Success! This morning I picked up a Rena 50. The difference is amazing. The Hagen Elite 803 was much, much louder. The Rena is virually silent! Thanks to things I have learned on this web site, I believe that I have a good air setup. The little Rena 50 is currently supplying air to a 1 gal. (2 carnival goldfish) and a 1.5 gal. (2 rosie red minnows, also carnival prizes). I placed a 1 inch air stone in each. The air line has a check valve along with a 4 output valve. I adjusted the air flow to a reduced rate for the small "tanks" and allowed some air to bleed out of an unused valve to reduce back pressure on the pump. Am I OK so far? Thanks to those who have helped.

I wouldnt bother letting off excess air through your spare valve. Most air pumps are pretty sturdy and i can't imagine there'd be much back pressure if you're just running regular airstones through reletively shallow tanks.

PS Rehome your goldfish :p
