Hi' all,

Well today i accidently dropped my lid down without moving the pipes into the gap in the hood and it appears ive cut the plastic piping , at first i lost all output from the filter, i got cut back the pipe which is cut and stuck a bit of hose pipe on it and then attached back to the intake, i now have a what looks nearly normal output apart from intermittantly aload of air bubbles come out...

is this likely to nacker the filter? Went to my only lfs pets at home and they dont sell the piping so going to have to go online and order some so will be tuesday until it arrives am i best just leaving it running or popping turning the filter of?

I have 2 filters capable of filtering the tank by themselves so i'm not to wurried about loosing the bacteria just a bit wurried about elephant nose as they need tip top water conditions....

If you are worried about air bubbles in your filter, it should be okay until tuesday.

As long as there is not A LOT of air like an air pump, where your filter will start to have cavitation, which would not be too good.

Cavitation is where your impeller on your pump will spin; but in relation to how much your impeller is spinning, it wont "push" that much water.

If its spitting a lot of air regularly, and you have a redundant system, stop risking damage to the thing and switch it off :good: Fluval 03's are built well, and will take a lot of abuse, but cavitating the impeller every few seconds for a few days will kill the impeller before long

EDIT, wait, this is an 05 series Fluval. Switch it off now if its still belching air. The new Fluval's don't do abuse, the impellers last a few minutes of air clearing before they go, and a £15 a time, new impellers aren't cheap  Running a few 05's for people I know has tough me this the hard way :/

its like every 10 - 15 seconds you see the air in the water for about 2-3 seconds then it clears again . its not constantly chucking air out :) , i tried shaking it like i used to on my eheim when then had air in it but it didnt seem to make much difference.

quick edit , would restricting the flow make it any easier on the filter? just saves me having any sort of mini cycle...

Hiya this may sound stupid, but I had the same happen with my 405 blowing out air occasionally. I found the filter was sucking the occasional bubble in from an airline in the tank, I moved the intake pipe and everything was ok.

just an update the air must of just been stuck in the filter from when i had the broken pipe as it seems to have cleared, sat here and watched it for 10minutes and no air:D suprised the shaking didnt bring it out, ill order my new fluval pipe at the weekend.
