I was doing a project for school not too long ago and I happened to turn around and notice something black and slimey on my floor. At first I thought my cat dropped a... you know, on my carpet. Nope. It was one of my female bettas!!!!! I got her in the tank as quick as I could. She was doing sluggish for a few minutes but now shes ok. There is a gap between the tank trim and the hood that I feed them from.
I decide to feed my fish just a few minutes ago and as I'm feeding the females.. you guessed it... another one jumped out!!!! She didn't have as soft a fall as the other one... landed on a shoe box from 4 feet in the air, but she is still swimming.

ouch, i wonder why they would jump, i didnt think that bettas were known to jump, are your water params ok"? maybe he is trying to get out :/

Gosh, we have the same rough night. I put two females in 1 tank with a divider, 1 female somehow managed to cross because her fins were ripped when I found her. I thought she went through the gap between divider and tank, so I replaced her with a larger female, next day both girls were on the other side with one ripped again. Sigh!

I learned about bettas jumping ability the hard way when I lost mine :rip: after a water change. Filled a little to much without a hood I guess.

If I hold my finger an inch above the water they will jump and hit it.
Im just glad I didn't roll over her w/ my chair! THey are doing great today btw.
