i have 3 female platys in my 39gal community tank. my blue neon platy was always the ruler of the tank but never actually hut a fish, then i got another female platy which was bigger and she was shy for a while and now she has overtaken the tank. she occasionally bites the tail of another female platy and she recovers
but she has also been biting my female betta pretty bad, is there anything that i could do to stoop this???

Probably the best action is to bring that one back to the store, unfortunately...

Its interesting that it is the female who shows the aggression - I have yet to observe that behavior from platies...

I have had a few aggro platies in my time and I have found that the best way to deal with it is to rearrange the tank....preferably while they are in another tank (so they can't see what you are doing).....then put the peaceful fish back first, wait a few days then put the aggressor back....by then the more peaceful fish should have sorted out their territories before putting the aggressive one back....

It has always worked for me....

If it doesn't work perhaps the LFS will take it back or perhaps you could get another tank :p
