Yesterday, I did a major rearangement in my tank. Added lots of caves and hiding spots, replaced plastic plants with real (mostly anyway) and purchased 3 kribs from my lfs. I asked for 2 females and 1 male, but I think I have 3 females (well they all have rounded coudal fins anyway, is there another way to check).

Anyway, the problem is they have each set up a teritory, one in the middle and one at each end. The one in the middle wont let anything near for around six inches all round. Its only chasing off at the mo, no nipping yet. The other two are mellow and dont bother with other fish even the cichlids. Is this normal or do I have a mental krib? Oh and the aggresive one is slightly larger than the other two.

Thanks

Jon

How large are the kribs? Its hard to tell the sex on some of the small ones. Sometimes pet stores get immature fish because they are cheaper. Male kribs have pointed dorsal, anal and pectoral fins and also have spots on their tails. The female kribs have rounded dorsal anal and pectoral fins and usually are more rounded with more red to their bellies. Its usually quite an obvious difference between the males and females, any pet store employee should be able to tell. You really should go with one male and one female, they will always pair off eventually and any more kribs in the tank will be beaten or killed.
