Hi i bought a male and female blue ram 2 weeks ago and to start with the male was harrassing the female but they calmed down after a day and were getting along fine.

Then a couple of days ago i noticed the female was looking very stressed, normal colouring faded, different stripes showing and the male was chasing her.

If that wasn't bad enough i checked today and they've reversed roles, the female is chasing the male and her colours are fine and he's all pale and stressed.

Is this gonna carry on to the point where i have to get rid of them or will they settle down again and this is just an occasional thing?

I would wait and see what happens.

My male always used to chase the female every time he saw her but now he hardly ever does.

You seem to have an aggresive pair then if they are nibbling on fins because they are supposed to be peaceful fish apart from when they are breeding.

I had one guppy with mine and they never attacked it. In fact my guppy was the one bullying the rams when i first got them!

i suppose like you said you can only separate them.

Typical! i never have any luck

I'm prob gonna hafta return them to the shop coz i've got nowhere else to put them :dunno:

Yer I had/have this problem, my male just slowly follows the female sometimes and she gets all stressed and swims off with him chasing her. It did get better when I seperated him for a bit, but he got so so lonely on his own, so now apart from the odd following session he is ok.

Thing is i have very high PH, like 8.2 so they couldn't actually breed coz they like soft acidic water for breeding don't they?

I rang the lfs i bought them from and he said to float the female in a bag in the tank for a couple of hours to give the male a chance to recover from her chasing him and then they should be alright but it didn't make any difference :(

If i tried changing one should i change the female coz shes the agressive one?

sounds as if you may have two males or two females to me...generally speaking the males chase the females or the dominant male chases the weaker male/dominant female chases weaker female - you should be sure of the sex before you get another one...

Do you think i should just return the agressive one and keep one on it's own or do they not like that?

I'm fairly sure that ones male and ones female, the female is smaller, a bit fatter and has a definite pinky/red belly, the male is bigger, slimmer and no sign of pink belly.

well, i donno, rams nip and chase eachother, it's just what they do....if they look really stressed then i would return one

So one would be happy on it's own?

I wasn't sure if they're the sort of fish to get lonely without a mate (i would :) )
