Hi, I hope that someone can help.

I set-up a new 90ltr tank 4 weeks back, using media and water from a smaller tank, and introducing existing Tiger Barbs one per week. I am changing 5-10ltr of water every few days whilst things settle, and water tests look fine.

However, the first Barb that I put in the tank is VERY aggressive, and has now nipped the lower / side fins of the second Bark to the extent that they are mere stumps.

I read that this could be because of low numbers (3), so I recently added two small barbs taking the total to 5. But, the Green Barb is still very aggressive, to all fish. I fear that the Barb with the damaged fin will not take much more abbuse.

What can I do to calm the Barb? Add further fish? Isolate the Green Barb for a while?

Any ideas?

Its very common with Tiger Barbs. They do far better in larger numbers, the aggression is spread out and not one fish gets picked on continually. Id remove all the Barbs then put them back in together so that no one fish thinks its his tank.

We had problems with barbs too (rosy)but after putting more in they all settled down.Ended up with 6 alltogether from the original 2 fighting to near death.

Is the green barb the only one and all the rest are a different colour?Mabe that is what is causing the problem i would put him in another tank with larger fish it always works for me as it seems to knock a fiesty fish on the head when others are more dominent in another established(everyone knows their rank) community tank.

hope that makes sense

Heather
