I have a male micky mouse platy who chases my pregnant red wagtail platy. He has another female platy and completely ignores her, is this common? I have two females for him and he is in a tank with three mollies and a betta. She is hiding at the bottom of the tank and barely eats anything. I put her in the breeder box and she acts depressed.

How many do you have in total? Whats the ratio of female to male? Most of my males seem to single out a favorite female, unless shes overly stressed out by it I wouldnt worry about it.

I agree, I have 2 f to 1 m of both my red wag and orange Mickey mouse platties, and while the males will mate with all of the females, they tend to stick close to one preferred partner. I also have a pair of blue Mickey mouse platties who appear to be monogamous - they stick together and chase all the others away. If the female isn't stressed I wouldn't worry.

i have seen my mickey torment a single female untill she would no longer come out of hiding, and even once he was removed, it took her weeks to learn to come out again.

i had correct ratios and everything.

that mickey went on to always pick on any platy that had the same coloring as that original female. it was like he hated her and all her offspring.

It's funny. I have Marigold Variatus and one of the females is aggressive. A male comes up to court her, and she just beats on him. I had to rehome their mother because she was showing cross species aggression.

A lot of times they are trying to establish a pecking order. My swordtails often do this. I'll notice that the dominant male in the tank is somewhat aggressive to all fish except the one he tries to mate with.

I too have a aggressive mickey mouse male who is acting in the same way.....He kisses up to 1 female mickey mouse its almost comical.....but then there is a  2nd one too which if  he see's her getting close to the both of them and he goes off and aggressively chases her off, until she ends up hiding down on the bottom for shelter.   my ratio is 2 females to 1 male....any thoughts??   btw its a 36 gallow bow front aquarium and not overly stocked.

This is just the way they act. They choose their favourite, unless it's guppies, they try to mate with anything

I wouldn't put her in the breeder box, you will stress her out even more. How big is the tank? Do you have plants and wood/rocks for them to hide behind?
