Okay so the remaining ram of my pair (the male) was moved into the 120 gallon along with the other community fish. For some reason he is darting at the tetras and smaller fish. Not really nipping at them or attacking them but just chasing them around. Is this normal? Why is he acting like that now and never before when he was in the 29 gallon? A bigger tank? :dunno:

I am going to go get him another girlfriend probably this weekend.

Sounds to me like the toughest fish in the tank is simply establishing himself as such in a new environment. Unless/until he actually starts doing the other fish harm I would think you are quite safe. Also pairing him off will most likely distract him while he is impressing the female but may become more aggressive as the mating rituals begin. But, I confess, that's my experience with fish in general, I don't know Rams very well...

Well I am going to end up getting 2 or 3 pairs of rams so hopefully if they do get aggressive they will keep it amongst themselves. He doesn't chase the female betta though and she is about the size of the tetras, just the neons. :dunno: He has calmed down quite a bit and now is back to his usually hiding ritual.

Well he mainly does even in the 29 gallon he hid most of the time and is really skiddish. Now he will kind of "challenge" you when you look in "his" tank. He'll come up to the glass and raise his dorsal fin. I just puff my cheeks out at him and he gets really scared and darts away. :p

He hasn't chased them today...maybe he was just being a weirdo lastnight. :dunno:

sounds natural... once he feels established as the king of the tank he won't have much reason to torment other fish... until he gets bored...

Well I am going shopping tomorrow to pick out a pretty little girl for him. :p Maybe that will get him out of hiding so much in the plants.

You know, I always pester you about the choice not keep an Oscar, but I must admit, I am thinking about changing my 100g to a SA/CA community, and putting my big boys in a 300g pond like container.

Cant wait to see some more pics! PM when you update ;)
