I'm not sure if anyone can help me.. i'm actually trying to help a friend.

She has a 10 g tank and has 3 goldfish in it. She says that one of the fish is being aggressive. I've never known goldfish to be aggressive.

Does anyone know what can make a goldfish act like that?

There doesn't appear to be any sickness or anything.

What type of goldfish and how big?

Most people will tell you that 10 gallons is too small for goldfish.Perhaps that is creating stress leading to aggression.

I'm sure someone will be along with more help soon.

I had 5 feeder gold fish in a tank when I was younger along with an alge eater and they never got aggressive at all.

I had two gold fish in a 1 g tank, one died but i think it's cuz it was sick to begin with and the other one seems to be fine.

I'm not sure what type she has. I've just never heard of goldfish getting aggressive. Can they get aggressive at all if mating?

Males will chase females when trying to breed, and I've had some aggressive goldfish, so it is possible. However I think her bigger concern would be to get them out of that tank, the general rule with goldfish is twenty gallons for the first one and ten gallons for each more. Right now she'd be looking at a forty gallon tank for them and even bigger if they are not fancy goldfish. If she wants to keep them she needs to get a bigger tank, or if they are common and she can't keep them find someone who can, or put them in someones pond. Don't put them in a pond if they are fancy though!

Well, between the fact that they get a decent size and they are poop monsters they need a decent amount of room. They are cool though, so if she could get a tank, they're worth it.

even the smallest goldfish get to 6" at adult size, I expect that 10 gallon is around 20"x12"x12", a full grown goldfish wouldnt have much room to swim in there would he.
