I have a fairly new 10 gallon tank with 3 tiny whiteclouds, a small platy, and was suprised and given a Leopard Danio by a friend. I did my research, found that Danios were good community fish, and saw no harm in adding it to my tank. All the fish are doing well, but the Danio has turned out to be a bit aggressive, chasing the rest of the fish around the tank. My orignal plan was to get a few tetras once I was comfortable with the how the tank was running. Now I am evaluating my options as to what I can add. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to calm down the tank bully? Or should I just add a couple tetras, so his attention is well divided? I'm new to keeping fish, so I'd appreciate any comments :)

Danios can become aggressive fin nippers when they are kept alone, they need to be kept in groups of atleast 6. Another reason why he could be acting so aggresively is because of the tank size, he will need a larger tank as they are so active and never stop moving. If I were you, I would get 3 more WCMM (because they also need to be kept in groups), rehome the danio, maybe add another platy so yours is not alone, and leave it at that, you will be fully stocked. You will not have room to add more tetras, as you would have to add atleast 6 of them (because, again, they like to be kept in groups). Hope that helped!

Thank you, it's odd that no one at the fish store I went to recommended getting 6, I am very glad you told you me.

What gender is your platy? If its female, just add another female- don't have any mixed gender groups as 1male needs at least 2-3 females and with a single male and female, the female would get far too harrassed by the male. If its a male don't add another as you need a fair few males for all male livebearer groups as with only 2, the more dominant one will make the weaker ones life a misery.

as has already been said, The best thing to do is rehome the leopard danio.
checkout my danio website for more info on them and many other species of danio.

My platy is a male, so I guess I will have to stick with the one platy.

Thank you for the advice on the Danio, I will rehouse it.
